World Radiography Day and International Day of Radiology at Benenden Hospital

On 8 November it’s World Radiography Day and International Day of Radiology! We discuss what makes Benenden Hospital a great place to work if you’re considering a career in radiology as well as an exciting opportunity to join our talented team.

What is World Radiography Day?

World Radiography Day marks the anniversary of the discovery of x-radiation by Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895.

Did you know the Society of Radiographers estimates that over 90% of patients have some form of imaging or scan during their time in hospital?

At Benenden Hospital, our Imaging Department alone performs more than 18,000 scans a year. So, join us as we celebrate the vital contribution that Radiographers bring not only to our modern, private hospital but to healthcare overall.

On the same day, radiologists, radiographers, radiological technologists and professionals from related fields celebrate the ten-year anniversary of International Day of Radiology. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of the importance of radiologists and radiographers and all that they contribute to safe patient care. This year, the motto is ‘Interventional Radiology – Active care for the patient’. Interventional radiology is a unique and growing subspecialty that helps and protects patients every day.

Why work at Benenden Hospital?

Dr Mo Faris is our Consultant Interventional Radiologist. Here, he highlights why he loves his area of expertise at Benenden Hospital. “The field of Radiology is great career choice as its wide ranging and covers most aspects of the varying specialities of healthcare. It’s a cutting-edge field based on technology. As our technological breakthroughs have occurred so have our advancements in the diagnostic and therapeutic services we can offer. Come and join the team....it's a decision you won't regret."

To help support these essential members of healthcare, International Day of Radiology asks imaging professionals to pause for a moment and reflect upon their hard work. As we continue to face the impact of Covid-19, our hospital continues to acknowledge the key role that imaging and diagnostics has in healthcare. This should be remembered not only during the uncertainty of the global pandemic but also in day to day patient safety and care.

At Benenden Hospital our diagnostic radiology uses a variety of imaging techniques, such as x-rays, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and ultrasound to look inside your body to assess or diagnose disease and injury. You’ll usually be referred to us for an imaging appointment following a referral from your GP or hospital Consultant. We can help you get the answers you need, quickly.
