Statement on Meningitis B outbreak
Benenden Hospital is deeply saddened to hear of the deaths of two young people from meningitis in the Canterbury and Faversham area. Our thoughts are with the families and communities impacted.
If you think you may have been exposed to someone with meningitis, we encourage everyone to follow official advice from the UK Health Security Agency. Call NHS 111 for advice if you are concerned. If you, or someone you look after, develops symptoms, seek urgent medical attention by calling 999 or go to your nearest A&E immediately.
Our hospital does not offer the MenB vaccine or other treatment for meningococcal disease, but preventative antibiotic treatment is available at designated clinics for those who are eligible.
