What happens before my procedure?

Once you’re settled, the Consultant performing your operation will come to talk to you before your surgery to make sure you fully understand your planned procedure, including any risks that may be involved.

Your Anaesthetist will examine you and check that the required tests, including blood tests, have been carried out. You’ll be able to ask them about the anaesthetic procedure.

What happens after my procedure?

After your operation, you’ll stay in the recovery area until you’re ready to go back to your room on the ward, where you’ll be looked after by our caring nursing staff.

It’s not unusual to feel drowsy and in some discomfort after your procedure. Sometimes an anaesthetic and/or combination of drugs can make you feel tired, dizzy or nauseous for up to 24 hours. However, our Nursing staff will be supporting you and will assess how you're doing after your procedure.
