We are currently recruiting a Senior Staff Nurse to support the Eye Unit Manager with the provision of professional leadership and operational management, providing clinical expertise and advice in planning and implementing high standards of patient-focussed care, following hospital policies, guidelines and protocols. Providing advice and support for the Eye Unit Team, assuming responsibility for the department in the absence of the Manger.

About the role
- Be responsible for ensuring delivery of high standards of evidence-based care for all patients at all times.
- Be responsible for ensuring all patients have a care plan that is evaluated and current and patients’ records reflect accurately.
- Works across all the Depts areas of patient care, demonstrating competency and expertise accordingly.
- Provide sound clinical knowledge and information for staff, ensuring that all Dept nursing and clinical practices are meeting the required standards.
- Provide mentoring to students and learners, fostering a positive and supportive experience
- Support with monitoring all Dept KPIs to ensure standards of care are monitored, evaluated and improvements are made.
- Promote reflective practice and learning, ensuring that training and development is supported, is evidence- based, is appropriate and is responsive to patient and service needs.
- Work within scope of practice always, seeking out learning and development opportunities that support the role.
Skills and experience required
- First level Registered Nurse.
- Significant post registration experience in relevant area/specialty.
- Degree in Healthcare or 5+ years equivalent experience.
- Previous experience or knowledge of coaching/managing in a coaching style or willingness to undertake training
- ILS training or willingness to undertake training
- Basic phlebotomy and ECG monitoring
- Excellent organisational planning and problem-solving skills
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to build and support team working in a positive and challenging culture
- Strong patient-centred approach
- Sound computer skills e.g. MS Office Suite and web-based reporting systems
- Foster a culture of professionalism and a positive working team environment
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity and ethics in the workplace
- Ability to work under pressure and progress own workload, including whilst supervising/supporting others
