Common questions

Referral routes for physiotherapy

You can be prescribed physiotherapy at different stages in your treatment including:

1. Direct physiotherapy referral from your GP or self referral (for private insured or self-paying patients)

2. Membership direct physiotherapy referrals
Membership referrals are received through an organisation called RehabWorks. In the first instance, you should request this service via Benenden, and, if it’s authorised, you’ll be directed to RehabWorks who’ll assess your needs. If appropriate, you’ll be offered an appointment at one of the RehabWorks registered locations, which include Benenden Hospital.

3. Outpatient physiotherapy as the preferred course of treatment for Benenden members
If you're seen as an outpatient and prescribed a course of physiotherapy, you and your GP will be told and asked to access the local NHS services. Members should always seek to get this treatment through the NHS first. If you have trouble accessing treatment locally, you may want to contact Benenden member services on 0800 414 8100 for advice as to if you can access treatment at Benenden Hospital as a member or you may wish to come as a private self-paying patient.

4. Inpatient post-operative physiotherapy

5. Post-surgery physiotherapy for Benenden members
Some patients may be prescribed a course of physiotherapy to aid recovery following certain surgical operations. You can either choose to have three sessions at Benenden Hospital as part of your treatment, or ask your GP to arrange an NHS referral. If you have trouble accessing local treatment, you can contact us to discuss member support for treatment via RehabWorks.

Physio - assessments

You may be given an appointment for a telephone consultation when one of our physiotherapists will assess your needs. Depending on the result of that assessment, you could be referred for a face-to-face session. A member of our central bookings team will contact you to book an appointment to see a physiotherapist at a time that suits you.
