Successful hip replacement surgery for Rose Santer

Having spent three months in another hospital after suffering complications following an operation, Rose Santer was naturally “extremely apprehensive” about coming to Benenden for a total hip replacement.

But she says: “Benenden Hospital restored my confidence to go ahead with the operation. From day one, everyone was so helpful and kind.”

Rose’s problems with her hip started 15 years ago so she went to see her GP and had an x-ray but was told she did not need an operation.

“It was painful but I could manage for some time then the whole hip disintegrated so the bone was rubbing on bone and the pain was horrendous. I was taking paracetamol all day and night and I could hardly move from my chair so I went to see my GP again and he sent me to Benenden. I couldn’t wish for a better consultant, Mr Thakur was an absolutely brilliant gentleman. I was seen straight away, I had another x-ray and when the results came back he was horrified by the condition of my hip.”

A Benenden Health member, Rose successfully underwent her hip replacement and was discharged after four nights in hospital.

“I cannot say how I relieved I was when they tapped me on the shoulder and said ‘no complications’. I was on Bensan Ward and nothing was too much trouble for the nursing and catering staff. I came home and never had any problems and the pain had gone which was a bonus."
