What makes working at our hospital so special you may ask? Perhaps it’s the CQC Outstanding rated care and attentive treatment that our patients receive from all our staff, from the first contact they have to the day they complete their treatment.
Perhaps it’s the proud history the hospital has of caring for people since 1907, when it was opened by the National Association for the Establishment and Maintenance of Sanatoria to treat postal workers suffering from tuberculosis.
A hospital that has since been transformed into a modern, contemporary facility which delivers quality healthcare using the latest procedures and technologies. At the heart of everything we do we have our patients. We offer consultation, diagnostic tests and treatment for self-pay, and Private Medical Insurance patients, patients referred through the NHS e-Referral service and our Benenden Health members.
It’s for this reason that we have staff such as Ali Turner, our Hospital Matron, who chose to develop/progress her career at our hospital.
Ali has been a Matron since 2013, having joined the hospital 12 years earlier. Her path to nursing was far from what she had imagined it to be. Originally her chosen career path was an apprentice potter, followed on with a move into the world of horticulture. However, a career in healthcare beckoned after she read an advertisement for a healthcare assistant at a local nursing home. She decided to apply for the role, to see what it would be like, and was delighted to be successful. She loved it and hasn’t looked back. Ali says: “Nursing is about being there to support and make sure those in your care are well looked after. I see the position as being very special. It’s a real privilege to be trusted and able to care for people in the way that you would want your own family members or friends to be supported when they are at their most vulnerable.
"I love the variety that nursing brings and, honestly, throughout my 30 plus years career, no two days have ever been the same and I love that! I think there’s such breadth across the profession that there’s really something for every interest.”
You can find out more about Ali’s story on our website.
We are, therefore, excited to be hosting an in person clinical recruitment event on 11 September from 10am to midday at Benenden Hospital, Goddard’s Green Road, Benenden TN17 4AX . The event will give you an insight of working at the hospital, the benefits and roles available which include nursing, working in our state-of-the-art theatres and working in our specially-designed imaging suite. You will hear from our clinical managers and find out more about the roles available.
Speakers will include Ali Turner - Matron, Derrick Howard – Resourcing Officer and Claire Harley – Director of Patient Services. Also present will be staff from Inpatients, Theatres and the Eye Unit.
Jane Abbott, Hospital Director, said: “I am so proud of everything we do at our hospital and would love you to find out more about us and join our team. As we continue to find ourselves adapting to new ways of working in the health sector, we are proud of our reputation as a safe, infection-free hospital, due to the strict infection control measures we have in place to protect all our patients, staff and visitors.
“Our experienced clinical teams are passionate about delivering the best care to our patients and visitors. We welcome applications from experienced clinical staff, those returning to nursing after a career break or those who are just starting out in their careers. We want you to be part of our team and our future.
“This virtual event is a great opportunity to learn not only about our hospital’s history, but to hear first-hand from staff who will give you the insight on what it is like to work at our CQC rated Outstanding hospital.”
