You can use your Benenden membership to access our wide range of treatments and services

First things first: before we can accept you as a patient, your GP must first decide that you should see a specialist or have a diagnostic test.

We’d always recommend that your first choice, if it is available, is to use the NHS – it might be just as suitable for your needs. But remember to ask about the waiting times involved at your local NHS hospitals. If the NHS is unable to meet your needs you should inform your GP that you’re a Benenden member and considering using our Hospital, they will explain all the options open to you. One possible alternative is that you come to Benenden Hospital as an NHS e-Referral Service patient.

N.B. Not all of our services are offered to the NHS. If we do offer the service you need via the NHS e-Referral Service, you or your GP can make the first booking, either on-line at https://www.ebs.ncrs.nhs.uk or by calling the NHS e-Referral Service line on 0345 608 8888.

If you and your GP decide that using your Benenden membership is probably the best option due to the excessive waiting times within the NHS and the distress this is causing you, get in touch with Benenden's Member Services Department on 0800 414 8100, to discuss your specific needs. They will do everything they can to help.

When you call member services, it’s helpful to know the following information:

  • Your Benenden Membership Number.
  • The NHS waiting time for any service you’re requesting. And, if you are currently waiting, tell us about the effect the wait is having on you.
  • Information about your condition and what type of consultation, treatment or test you need.

For diagnostic consultations, your GP needs to send a referral letter to the Benenden Member Services Department, who will pass all the relevant information to us.

If you already have a diagnosis and require treatment for your condition, we’ll need your GP’s referral letter, together with a copy of the consultant’s report that advises the service you need.

Next, we’ll get back in touch with you, to organise your first appointment. If, for any reason, you can’t make your appointment, please give us as much notice as possible so that we can give your slot to another patient.

Funding for treatment must be authorised by Benenden before your appointment is arranged. Remember that Benenden Personal Healthcare offers treatment services on a discretionary basis, so contact the Member Services Department on 0800 414 8100, before making any arrangements.
