Chief Executive of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Praises Benenden Hospital Following Visit

Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive of The Nursing and Midwifery Council, visited Benenden Hospital to meet staff at the CQC Outstanding hospital

On 22 June, Benenden Hospital welcomed Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, Chief Executive of The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), to meet staff across all areas and gain an insight into the work of the CQC Outstanding hospital near Cranbrook.

Andrea and her NMC colleagues, Chief Information Officer Tom Moore and Executive Director of People and Organisational Effectiveness Lise-Anne Boissiere, were greeted on arrival by Jane Abbott, Hospital Director and nursing and theatre staff. They then embarked on a tour of the facilities, which took in the outpatients department, ACU and theatres, eye unit, diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy and time spent with patients on the wards.

Andrea delivered a presentation to staff, providing an opportunity for them to ask questions about her career and the current priorities for the NMC.

She said: “Under Jane Abbott’s leadership there’s such a positive, person-centred and supportive culture at Benenden Hospital. I loved meeting the team, especially staff nurses Kathy and Gillie, who have 60 and 50 years, respectively, on the NMC register. All very impressive.”

Hospital Director Jane Abbott added: “We were delighted to host Andrea and her colleagues, and our team very much appreciated the opportunity to discuss our work with her. We’re fiercely proud of delivering over 100 years of excellent patient care here at Benenden, and I know this pride shines through our dedicated staff. It was an inspirational and positive day for everyone.”
