About Mr Lavaris
I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in glaucoma and cataract surgery, and I currently serve as the Glaucoma Service Lead at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. I am trained in both Greece and the UK.
My subspecialty fellowship training was completed at two of the UK’s leading centres: Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where I gained extensive experience in complex glaucoma and anterior segment surgery. I have performed over 1,000 independent cataract and glaucoma procedures, including combined cataract–glaucoma surgery, drainage devices, and a full range of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques.
I hold a PhD in Ophthalmology for my doctoral research on the genetic background of primary open-angle glaucoma, reflecting my long-standing commitment to advancing glaucoma care through research and innovation.
Alongside my clinical work, I remain actively involved in teaching, training, audit, and research. I have authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications and regularly present at national and international meetings. My aim is to deliver personalised, evidence-based care using the most advanced surgical techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes for my patients.
