We are currently looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) in our Outpatients department. Under the supervision and responsibility of the Registered Health Professional (RHP), the HCSW will implement high standards of care for patients as prescribed and delegated by the RHP following hospital guidelines and protocols and always promoting a patient-focused approach. The HCSW will actively support the delivery of the Hospital’s business objectives. The successful candidate will join an experienced and friendly team.

About the role
Take responsibility for performing those tasks and duties as delegated by the RHP(s) and under their supervision, including assisting patients with basic hygiene activities and mobility support.
You will act as the patient’s advocate, always maintaining their dignity and safety.
Deliver high standards of evidence-based care for patients and their relatives.
Contribute to budgetary management by exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment and consumables.
Ensure storage of medicines in line with NMC Standards for Administration of Medicines and the hospital’s Medicine Management Policy and scope of the role.
Administer oxygen in an emergency situation.
Dispose of waste and hazardous materials.
Under supervision of the RHP, provide advice to patients on general healthcare and health promotion.
Skills and experience required
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent experience
- Relevant professional qualification i.e., NVQ Level III in Health & Social Care, Care Certificate (or equivalent) or willingness to undertake.
- Basic Life Support training.
- Clinical skills (e.g., Phlebotomy, Cannulation, Catheter care, ECG recording, bladder scanning, urinalysis, assisting with procedures/examinations, conducting basic diagnostic tests/examinations, dressing changes).
- Good IT skills.
- Proven ability to undertake multiple tasks under pressure.
- Methodical in approach and pays attention to detail.
- Effective verbal communication using tact and diplomacy.
- Strong patient-centred approach.
- Supports a culture of professionalism and positive working in a team environment.
- Demonstrates honesty, integrity and ethics in the workplace.
- Demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude and flexibility to meet the requirements of the service.
