As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will support the Outpatients Manager/Sister with professional leadership and operational management. You will provide clinical expertise in planning, delivering, and evaluating high standards of patient-focused care in line with hospital policies, guidelines, and protocols.
You will also take responsibility for leading the department in the absence of the Manager/Sister, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality care delivery at all times.

About the role
- Deliver outstanding patient care, including health promotion and discharge planning
- Ensure all care environments are safe, clean, and fit for purpose
- Provide visible clinical leadership and support to the Outpatients team
- Supervise and support junior staff, including delegated line management responsibilities
- Take charge of the day-to-day running of the department when required
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
- Act as a positive role model and patient advocate
- Support staff competency, development, and mandatory training compliance
- Act as a mentor for students and learners
- Take on responsibility as a link nurse/lead for a specialist area (e.g. IP&C, Wound Care, H&S)
- Ensure the safe custody and management of medications, in line with hospital Medicines Management Policy
- Provide clinical expertise and guidance to ensure all nursing and clinical standards are met
Skills and experience required
We are looking for someone who brings both clinical expertise and strong leadership capability:
- First Level Registered Nurse
- Significant post-registration experience in a relevant specialty
- ENB 998 (or equivalent)
- ILS training (or willingness to undertake)
- Competency in phlebotomy and ECG monitoring
- Excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Strong time management and prioritisation abilities
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- A clear commitment to a patient-centred approach
- Confident using MS Office and web-based systems
- Ability to foster a positive, professional team culture
- Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and attention to detail
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to perform under pressure
