Benenden Hospital’s Business Development Manager Paul Apps presented the cheque at the Kent Oncology Centre, at Maidstone Hospital.

The cheque was given to Russell Burcombe, Consultant Clinical Oncologist and Trustee with Breast Cancer Kent, Dr Karina Cox, Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon and Chair of Breast Cancer Kent and one of the charity’s fundraisers Helen Teare.

Laura’s Ball takes place at Leeds Castle, Maidstone on Saturday 7 October.

The cheque being presented

The ball is named after and is in memory of Laura Clarke, a Breast Cancer Kent volunteer who went through treatment for breast cancer at the age of 29. Two years later, in the midst of organising a fundraising ball for the charity, her breast cancer returned. Laura was a Cardiac Physiologist at Maidstone Hospital for nine years.

Benenden Hospital supports various community events throughout the year including a charity bike ride, a school competition to encourage future scientists and inventors and a cookery competition.

When Breast Cancer Kent approached Benenden Hospital the organisation was pleased to be able to help another local good cause, especially as it has recently introduced a new service which can help women who have had chemotherapy, as well as woman suffering symptoms of the menopause. The new service is called the The MonaLisa Touch®.
