About our Eye Unit

If you’ve already visited your GP or optician and they’ve advised that you need further investigation, they’ll arrange a referral for treatment in our Eye Unit. We provide a full diagnostic ophthalmic service as well as treatment for cataracts, YAG laser treatment for posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and non-cosmetic oculoplastic surgery.

During your consultation

Arriving at the hospital

On arrival at the hospital, please check in at our main Reception. Our friendly staff will direct you to our Eye Unit in the Lower Atrium, where you’ll wait until a nurse collects you for your appointment.

During your consultation

If you’re attending for an ophthalmic diagnosis, the nursing team will complete any necessary tests. You may also see one of our experienced Consultants. Following your appointment, we may refer you to the NHS for further investigation and/or treatment.

If you’re attending for possible cataract diagnosis, we’ll carry out a pre-assessment prior to you seeing your Consultant. If surgery is the right treatment for you, a member of our admin team will send details of your appointment in the post.
