Hundreds flock to hospital Open Day

Benenden Hospital welcomed more than 650 visitors to its 2018 Open Day on Sunday (October 7) with tours of the multi-million redevelopment and free health and eye checks.

Hundreds turned out to find out about a range of self-pay services such as hip and knee replacements, cataract surgery, weight loss surgery, gynaecology and varicose vein treatment.

They chatted to the hospital’s expert clinical teams and were treated to tours around the hospital’s three state-of-the-art theatres during the free open event.

Hospital Director Jane Abbott said: “This was our second Open Day at Benenden this year and we were overwhelmed by the number of people who came along.

“The tours were really well-attended with people having the opportunity to see a theatre for the first time.”

Visitors were given a tour of the hospital’s wards and the Eye Unit which is one of the biggest providers of cataract care in the South East.

They also found out about new procedures such as the Elipse weight loss balloon and were given free physiotherapy advice during the five-hour event.

There were a total of 125 free health checks for cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI and 56 free eye checks given during the event.

Director of Patient Services Claire Harley said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome so many members, patients and members of the future to our hospital and it was fantastic to see so many people taking advantage of our Open Day.”

There was also a homemade cake and jam sale and tombola run by the Rising Mercury Society which last year raised a grand total of £20,000 for the hospital.

The hospital’s next free open event will be a weight loss clinic on Saturday, January 26th, 2019 when visitors can find out about a range of bariatric surgery including gastric band surgery and gastric sleeve surgery.

Benenden Hospital offers a wide range of healthcare consultations, treatments and diagnostic services to Benenden members, self-pay healthcare and those with private health insurance. Some services may also be available to NHS patients via the e-referral system.
