Health workers enjoy Germany trip

Two healthcare support workers enjoyed a fact finding trip to Germany after they won a travelling fellowship run by Benenden Hospital.

Sarah Middleton and Jenny Bewsey visited the gynaecology department at the Goethe University Hospital in Frankfurt which is considered to be one of the best in Europe. They followed the patient journey through Outpatients, Theatre and after care to see if Benenden Hospital could better its practice.

The trip was made possible after the pair were winners of a Lord Plant Travelling Fellowship, a scheme run for staff at Benenden Hospital in Kent and the Benenden registered office in York. Any member of staff can apply to travel in the UK or abroad to undertake a project for personal or professional development.

Previous winners of the travelling fellowship have undertaken projects in Japan, America, India and The Gambia and many other countries.

On her return from Frankfurt Sarah said: “It was a very successful and informative trip. We had an absolutely great time.

“We visited the hospital to see if they do anything different there which we could bring back to our hospital here at Benenden. We met doctors and nurses at the hospital and some of the staff are keen to come to Benenden Hospital to spend some time with us.

“While in Germany we travelled to some areas of interest  and some amazing places such as Bamberg  and Heidelberg which had the most stunning scenery.”
