Our services

MRI scans

In 2025, we opened our newly refurbished MRI suite, featuring a £1m Siemens Healthineers MAGNETOM Altea scanner. The scanner is part of a £1.4m Imaging department upgrade, enhancing image quality, scan speed and diagnostic capacity, enabling 6,000 MRI appointments annually. The suite includes calming landscape photography of the Wealden countryside, ambient lighting and calming magnolia ceiling tiles helping to provide comfort to patients with anxiety or claustrophobia.

Barium studies

Barium studies (tests) involve ingesting a barium sulphate suspension - a metallic compound which shows up on X-rays. It allows the outline of your oesophagus, stomach, and small intestines to be studied. Barium is a metal compound which does not allow X-ray’s to pass through it, meaning the area is outlined on the image which allows your doctor to see if there is a problem.

CT scans

We offer private CT scans to diagnose and monitor a wide range of conditions affecting organs, blood vessels, and bones. Our advanced imaging provides detailed internal views, with appointments arranged quickly following a referral.

General X-rays

Our X-rays are quick, pain-free, and interpreted by expert radiologists to support timely, effective treatment decisions.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound is used to examine parts of your body and can be used to detect any changes or abnormalities in your organs, tissues, or blood vessels. Our Sonographers are here to support you through your ultrasound scan.

We launched the first integrated liver ultrasound screening service in South East England, following NICE guidelines to improve our patient pathways and reduce time to intervention by up to five months. With Siemens Healthineers’ ACUSON Sequoia Crown systems, we now perform on-site liver and abdominal scans, enhancing our diagnostic confidence and reducing reliance on NHS resources.

Our ultrasound service assesses liver stiffness and fat using UDFF, while also imaging the wider abdomen in a single appointment. This allows us to detect liver disease earlier, reduce appointments, and deliver faster, more effective care through our experienced gastroenterology and hepatology team.

Biopsies

We now have a third ACUSON Sequoia Ultrasound System. This innovative technology has the latest software including needle enhancement technology to ensure optimum visibility of the needle during an interventional procedure.

Our Consultant Radiologists utilise the system for specialised musculoskeletal, head/ neck and vascular examinations. Including injections and biopsies - improving efficiency and creating a clearer picture of patient health.

Installing our new MRI scanner

The new scanner offers increased image quality and faster scan times, increasing capacity and allowing our Imaging experts to identify health issues quickly and effectively.

Hi, I'm Emma I'm the Imaging Manager at Benenden Hospital.

On average, perform almost 6,000 MRI scans per year, and we want to ensure that we are able to work in line with best practice and evolving technologies in the medical imaging field.

That is why were have invested in our new Siemens Altea 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner.

It comes with AI technology to improve image quality, reduce scan times and provide you with a first class MRI experience.

Building works commenced in March of this year, including the removal of our old MRI scanner and preparation of the area for the installation.

We continued to provide a first class MRI service using a mobile machine, which was staffed by our brilliant imaging team.

Our new scanner arrived on the 19th of May, and then work commenced on installing and commissioning the scanner in preparation for our patients.

Our new Siemens MRI scanner brings a whole host of benefits to patient care, namely improved image quality and hence timely diagnosis.

Alongside this, the patient experience is much improved with the ambient lighting, local landscape bringing the outside in and ceiling tiles adding another dimension.
