Nesbit's procedure - curvature of the penis treatment

Nesbit’s procedure is used to correct a condition called Peyronie’s disease which causes a curvature of the penis.

It is believed to affect between 1% and 4% of men over the age of 40. It can cause pain and problems during sexual intercourse.

If surgery is needed the operation would usually be performed under a general anaesthetic, which means the patient would be asleep. In some cases a spinal anaesthetic would be used, where the patient would be numb from the waist down.

Shock wave therapy might be recommended for some cases before considering surgery. A patient would discuss the various options with a Consultant.
