Crowds flock to hospital sponsored choir event

Hundreds of people attended the finals of a Kent choir competition run by the Hospice in the Weald and sponsored by Benenden Hospital.

It was held at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells at the end of February and raised funds towards the £7 million need each year to maintain Hospice in the Weald’s vital services.

The winners were an all-female group called Green Street Blues, with their wide range of song styles including modern, show tunes and pop.

A spokesperson for the Hospice, who were one of Benenden Hospital’s chosen charities for 2015, said: “We hope that everyone who participated, watched and volunteered enjoyed the Choir Competition at the Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells. Congratulations to Green Street Blues on becoming our Hospice in the Weald Choir of the year 2016!

“Thank you so much to our judging panel consisting of Sara Kemsley, Jane-Rebecca Marshall and Graham Beveridge and the other five choirs who took part, it was a very tough decision to be made.

“Also a big thank you to our sponsors, Benenden Hospital Trust and Index Magazine. All the proceeds raised at this year’s event will go directly to Hospice in the Weald helping us to continue to provide our vital services to patients, families and carers throughout West Kent and East Sussex.

“We are not part of the NHS so rely on the generosity of the community in order to fund our vital services.”
