Theatre Bookings Administrator

£18,525.00 pa

Contract status: One Permanent contract, one 6-month fixed term contract

The purpose of the role is to provide exceptional customer service for those booking procedures for theatres and our Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU).

The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise and knowledge of the areas they are responsible for, ensuring compliance with the hospitals policies and procedures. They will ensure bookings process and guidelines are followed and will comply with data protection as all times.

The ideal candidate will be able to evidence the following skills and experience: -

  • The ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and organise workload
  • Decision making skills
  • Excellent IT skills

What is hospital administration?

Hospital administration is key to making all our patients feel welcomed, supported and communicated with. The administration is made up of several departments:

Reception Services

Our reception staff greet our patients when they arrive and ensure that they are directed where to sit and how to stay safe in and around the hospital.

Health Records

Our health records team carry out a variety of tasks, from gathering patient files and data for clinics to scanning correspondence onto our patient records system.

Medical Secretariat

As a Medical Secretary, you’ll support our busy Consultants by managing correspondence with their patients.

Patient Appointments / Referral Management

As well as managing treatment authorisations for Benenden Health members, our Referral Management team helps with patient queries and referrals vis the NHS e-Referral system.

Surgical Administration

This function includes our Theatre Bookings team, Pre-assessment office and Admissions teams. They’re responsible for booking pre-assessment clinics, theatre dates and managing the associated administration to ensure that our patients feel communicated with.

What qualifications are required to work in administration?

No formal qualifications are required for the majority of our administration services with the exception of the Medical Secretariat who need a qualification in typing and audio typing, preferably RSA or Pitman. 

A customer service qualification is desirable for all roles.

Every employee in our administration teams is offered a career coaching interview and is invited to create a personalised career development plan. 

We provide excellent training in all areas of administration and it is tailored to the individual’s needs.
