"Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens the effective prevention and treatment of an ever-increasing range of infections caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi." - WHO, 2016
Antimicrobial Resistance (Chief Medical Officers Annual Report, published 2013) states the following:
“Antimicrobial resistance is a very real threat. If we have no suitable antibiotics to treat infection, minor surgery and routine operations could become high risk procedures”.
At Benenden Hospital we're working hard to contribute to the safe use of antibiotics and to reduce antimicrobial resistance. This is achieved by a robust Antibiotic Stewardship Programme, with the Pharmacy Manager and the Director of Infection Prevention and Control both having signed up to being Antibiotic Guardians.
