Ryan gains IT apprenticeship

Ryan Igglesden

Ryan Igglesden, IT apprentice, learned at the end of July 2020 that he had gained his apprenticeship, passing with a Distinction.

He said of the opportunity: “Fourteen months ago, I started my role at Benenden Hospital as an IT Apprentice and last week I received my results. To my amazement I had passed with a Distinction grade! I was very happy with this result and still can’t believe it.

“Starting my IT career at Benenden Hospital as an apprentice was one of the best things I have done in my life. Completing my training has come around so fast, I’m looking forward to getting deeper into an IT career.

“I have been lucky to be surrounded by such a knowledgeable and friendly team who have taught me so much over the past year and can’t wait to move forward with them and see what else I can achieve.

“I studied IT throughout school and sixth form and have always been very much into my technology. I applied for many IT jobs before I started at Benenden but every one of them wanted someone with experience which I didn’t have. I left it a couple of years and I thought I’d never be able to get a job within the IT sector. I then saw that the Hospital advertising an IT Apprentice role and knew at that time that I should pursue it and see what where it might go. One year later and here I am!”

Mike Billham, Digital Learning Consultant – Infrastructure Technician & Network Engineer at BCS, delivered the good news to Ryan:

“I can confirm that you have passed the apprenticeship, having achieved a Distinction grade, well done!

“BCS were very happy with all aspects of your work; your portfolio not only showed the variety of tasks you did but also gave the ‘bigger picture’ information that firmly secured a top-end score; your synoptic project was detailed and showed a wide range of evidence to back up what you did; and during your interview you came across confidently, gave detailed explanations of the work you’ve done and why, and also provided more evidence of workplace tasks that you’ve taken part in.

“Overall this is a fantastic result and one of the strongest Distinctions I’ve seen in a long time, so you should be very proud of your result and the work you’ve done to achieve it!

“Once again very well done on this excellent result, and I wish you all the best for the future!”
