Introduction:
Uterine and vaginal prolapse surgery is one of the commonest gynaecological surgeries. The surgical techniques such as vaginal hysterectomy, anterior and posterior repairs has been described over one hundred years ago, e.g. anterior repair for Cystocoele has been described by J M Sim 1866. Furthermore the terminology which we are still using today such as cystocele, rectocele, enterocoele and procidentia were described in the 18th century when the anatomy of pelvic floor support was not fully understood.
Gynaecologists are nowadays faced with the challenge not only to provide the best and safest techniques for the correction of genital prolapse but also adapt and use different techniques to prevent future vaginal laxity and recurrence of prolapse.
The Objectives of this workshop are:
-
To review the recent anatomical studies and the dynamics of pelvic floor support.
-
To provide one to one "Hands-on' practical skills training on SS Colpopexy and anterior and total Trans-Vaginal Mesh.
-
To demonstrate effective and safe surgical techniques for the treatment of uterine, vault and/or vaginal prolapse, that includes:
Vaginal sacrospinous colpopexy
Posterior IVS
Vaginal Mesh Prolift (anterior, posterior and TVM)
