`Hands-on` Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Workshop

Introductory

The course is designed for Gynaecologists with some experience in laparoscopic surgery (Consultant, Senior Registrar or post MRCOG Registrar).  It will provide the attendant with a wide view of operative laparoscopy, by applying the syllabus of the RCOG minimum invasive surgery sub-committee, level 3.

The course will provide theoretical and practical instruction principles of operative laparoscopy, adnexal surgery, adhesiolysis, salpingo- oophorectomy and laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy, and also training in using electrosurgery and the use of different laparoscopic equipment including suturing, clamping, stapling and use of endoloops, and use of Ligasure™ Vessel Sealing device.

The participants must have some experience inoperative laparoscopy in order to achieve the objectives of this course.

At the end of this course every participant will be assessed by the RCOG preceptor and a full report will be sent to the College for approval.

Following the course one of the training and proctorship might be arranged.

 09.30  Lecture - Anatomical Considerations
 10.00  Lecture - Laparoscopic Adnexal surgery
 10.30  Lecture - Laparoscopic management of endometriosis
 11.00  Coffee
 11.10  Video - Techniques demonstrating lab
 11.20  Laboratory - Exercises I:  Adhesiolysis, scissor dissection, electrosurgery, salpingostomy, ovarian cystectomy, ovarian drilling and oophorectomy using; endoloop, stapler, Bipolar, Autosonix TM and LigaSure TM Vessel Sealing device.
 13.00  Lunch
 14.00  Lecture - Laparoscopic Complications. How to avoid?
 14.30  Lecture - Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
 15.00  Tea
 15.15  Laboratory - Exercises II:  endometriosis, salpingectomy, intracorporeal knot, extracorporeal knot, clipping, stapling and endoloops. closure of large ports.
 16.45  Lecture - Troubleshooting with laparoscopic surgery and electrosurgery.
 17.00  Close
 Day 2 - Monday (Theatre)
 08.30 Live surgery - Laparoscopic ovarian drilling, laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy, laparoscopic tubal surgery & salpingolysis endometriosis, Autosonix TM, electrosurgery, LAVH and Ligasure TM Vessel Sealing.
 08.30 Laboratory exercises III:  simulators between surgical cases co-ordination skills, timed tasks repeated amd skills tests.  Assessment.
 13.00 Lunch
 14.00 Live surgery and laboratory exercises continued.
 16.30 Round table discussion.
 17.00 Close & certificates.
