  • Bursectomy
    Description
    A bursa is a small sac of fluid that sits underneath the skin over bony prominences. It helps protect the underlying bone from too much local pressure. In a bursectomy a bursa is cut out either endoscopically or with open surgery. The bursa grows back in place after a couple of weeks but without any inflammatory component.
  • Bursitis
    Description
    Bursitis is usually caused by repetitive movement and excessive pressure. Elbows and knees are the most commonly affected. Inflammation of the bursae might also be caused by an inflammatory condition such as rheumatoid arthritis. Traumatic injury is another cause of bursitis.
  • Cardiology (Heart)
    Description
    This service is provided in the Lister Medical Centre, a diagnostic and treatment centre at the hospital. The centre offers a range of medical services and related tests to provide a speedy diagnosis.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
    Description
    Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a trapped nerve in the wrist. To relieve the pressure on the nerve, a small incision is made at the front of the wrist, the ligament on top of the nerve is cut and the skin is closed.
  • Cataract Operation
    Description
    The purpose of the operation is to replace the cloudy lens (cataract) with a plastic lens (implant) inside your eye.
  • Cauterisation of lesion of cervix uteri
    Description
    Cervical cautery is a procedure where the cells on the neck of the womb are treated using either heat or by freezing. This then encourages fragile delicate cells to grow into new and stronger cells which are less likely to cause discharge or irregular bleeding. A small biopsy is usually taken from the neck of the womb to check there are no other abnormalities before cervical cautery is performed.
  • Cheilectomy
    Description
    A Cheilectomy is an operation to remove extra bone that forms on the top of the big toe joint, which may cause pain and restricted movement. A small incision is made over the big toe joint. The orthopaedic surgeon will remove the bone that is rubbing inside the joint itself. The incision is then closed with stitches.
  • Chevron Osteotomy
    Description
    During the bunion operation the bone above the big toe joint is cut in such a way that the forefoot will be narrower and the toe straighter. The bunion is always removed and sometimes some of the toe tendons may be released.
  • Chronic pain
    Description
    Chronic pain is pain which has lasted a long time. This can have both a physical and emotional effect on the sufferer.The most common sources of pain stem from headaches, joint pain, pain from an injury and backaches
  • Circumcision
    Description
    Circumcision is the removal of the foreskin of the penis.
