Aim of the Course
The aim of the course is to train employees of Benenden Hospital and other    organisations to become competent first-aiders in the workplace, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Length and Structure of the Course
The course will take place over 4 days.  This may be 4 days consecutively or over a 4 week period to enable flexibility according to individual needs.

The hours of attendance on each of the four days will be from 09.15 to 16.45 hours, which includes a 45 minute break for lunch and 15 minutes for coffee/tea breaks.

Course Content
The following subjects will be taught on the course:-

  1. Resuscitation.
  2. Treatment and control of bleeding.
  3. Treatment of shock.
  4. Management of the unconscious casualty.
  5. Contents of first-aid boxes and their use.
  6. Recognition of illness.
  7. Treatment of injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
  8. Treatment of minor injuries.
  9. Treatment of burns and scalds.
  10. Treatment of eye injuries.
  11. Poisons.
  12. Simple record keeping and reporting.
  13. Personal hygiene in treating wounds.
  14. Communication and delegation in an emergency.
