Course Outlines: Emergency First Aid for Schools

Aim of the course
The aim of the course is to train teaching/auxilliary staff who are dealing with the supervision of children, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The course is certificated for one year.
Length and structure of the course
The course can be flexible and run over one day or two consecutive days and would be run on school premises or at Benenden Hospital between the hours of 9.15 a.m. – 16.30, which includes a break for lunch and 15 minutes for coffee/tea breaks.
Course content
The following subjects will be taught on the course:
Day one:

Introduction to first aid

Basic Life Support (adult and child)

Trauma:
Fractures
Head injuries
Bleeding
Burns
Eye injuries
Spinal injuries

Medical conditions:
Asthma
Anaphylaxis
Diabetes
Epilepsy
Day two:
FIirst Aid Confidence Booster Day
A second day is recommended to enable practice of skills and problem solving due to time limitations of day 1. This course is highly recommended for anyone supervising children.
Optional second day includes:

Meningitis

Patient assessment – Primary and secondary survey

Practical scenarios – putting it all together

Questions and discussion

1 day £400 inc VAT ( maximum 10 candidates per day)
2 day £600 inc VAT
