Course Outline: First Aid at Work - Requalification

Aim of the Course
The aim of the course is to refresh and update employees of Benenden Hospital and other organisations in their role of first-aiders in the workplace, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) ) Regulations 1981.
The course is open to First Aiders who have an in-date First Aid at Work Certificate on the first day of the course.
Length and Structure of the Course
The course will take place over 2 days. The hours of attendance on each of the four days will be from 09.15 to 16.45 hours, which includes a 45 minute break for lunch and 15 minutes for coffee/tea breaks.
Course Content
The following subjects will be reviewed on the course:

Update on procedures, equipment and guidelines

Resuscitation

Treatment and control of bleeding

Treatment of shock

Management of the unconscious casualty
The following procedures will be revised:

Treatment of injuries to bones, muscles and joints

Treatment of minor injuries
-
Treatment of burns and scalds
-
Eye injuries
-
Personal hygiene in treating wounds
-
Communication and delegation in an emergency
