Overview
The department provides a core service to Benenden Hospital by preparing and managing the paper health records which are used by Consultants, Nursing Staff and other departments within the Hospital.
Main Functions of the Department:

To register all new patients on the Patient Administration System (PAS) and prepare the Health Record folder (notes) for the patient.

To register all new referrals for existing patients on PAS, update their demographic details on the system and update their Health Records folder with the new referral details.

Preparing and sending patient notes to out-patient and ward areas in readiness for patient appointments.

Keeping the Health Records Library up to date by ensuring that additional documentation has been added correctly to case notes and archiving notes for previous years, where the patient is no longer having treatment.

Pulling sets of notes required for audit and other authorised purposes.

Actioning requests from patients for access to their health records, following the agreed procedures to ensure confidentiality and to comply with current legislation.
