Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex launched Benenden Hospital’s centenary celebrations in style when she unveiled a commemorative sculpture on Thursday 26th April.
The Countess also met staff, patients and their families, visiting the Paediatric Unit, the new Theatre Suite, the Princess Day Surgery Unit and Procedure Room.
Commissioned to mark the hospital’s centenary year, the sculpture, entitled ‘All Clear’, is a 9ft high bronze figure reaching towards the sky. It was created by local artist Bob Allan who drew inspiration from his own health experiences and time in intensive care.
“We were absolutely delighted that The Countess of Wessex agreed to join us in our celebrations and formally dedicate the sculpture. This continues our long association with the Royal Family; it was a privilege to show the Countess our hospital as well as give staff and patients the opportunity to meet her,” said hospital director Ken Hesketh.
“This is a very happy year for us all and we have organised a special programme of events |for staff and the public to celebrate our centenary.”
