Philosophy - The Chaplains and their assistants are chaplains for the whole community of the hospital and its patients. The Chaplains are there to:
-
Listen to any patient of any faith or of no faith who may wish to talk to them;
-
Share Christian spritual insights when invited to do so;
-
Act in such a way as to promote the pastoral care and well-being of the patients, believing that such care can aid physical;
-
Be aware of the religious needs of people of differing faiths and, if asked, to arrange for them to be met if possible;
-
Co-operate with other staff in the promotion of patients' well-being;
-
Respect the confidentiality of patient care.
Benenden has its own Chaplaincy staff who visit the wards regularly. They are here for everyone regardless of beliefs or practice. As well as making social calls they are happy to meet with patients and/or staff who specifically request a visit, arrangements can be made through your ward staff.
Arrangements can be made to receive the Sacrament on the ward, or for one of the chaplains to come and say prayers with you if you would find that of help.
There is also a Hospital Church (St Margaret's). It is open daily, and is a place of quiet retreat for patients, visitors and staff. People of all faiths, or none, are welcome to use this space, which can be found on the road leading westwards from the hospital.
