Advanced 'Hands-on' Vaginal Pelvic Floor Surgery Workshop

Introduction
The advantages of vaginal hysterectomy for excision of the uterus are well documented. Data from (VALUE) has shown that in the last 5 years the incidence of vaginal hysterectomy as a method of excision of the uterus has doubled and there is no doubt that with the introduction of laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy, Gynaecologists need to master the technique of vaginal hysterectomies. One of the limitations of vaginal hysterectomy is the accessibility of the ovaries vaginally in cases of no uterine prolapse.

The objective of the course is to demonstrate safe techniques for vaginal hysterectomy and vaginal oophorectomies and the use of endoscopic facilities for the removal of ovaries.

Vaginal sacrospinous colpopexy is an effective treatment of vault prolapse and although the operation is a simple and safe procedure which can be easily learnt, this operation has remained restricted to a minority of gynaecologists. The aim of the course is to demonstrate the technique of vaginal sacrospinous colpopexy and to perform live surgery with hands-on vaginal operations.
