Actress Tina Hobley, who plays nurse Chrissie Williams in BBC One’s Holby City, is to experience a ghostly illusion on the site of a former ward at Benenden Hospital this Saturday night1 on BBC One’s The Magicians, a live magic show featuring celebrities.
To feel part of the magic, in-patients and staff will be invited to a live onsite screening on flat-screen televisions around the wards. Each of The Magicians programmes features a combination of live magic illusions and pre-recorded illusions filmed in locations throughout the UK. The former Garland Wing, built in 1908, and no longer used for patient care, was chosen as the perfect site for an atmospheric night-time shoot for one of the show’s pre-recorded tricks.
Benenden Hospital, which is an independent, not-for-profit hospital serving NHS, private and Benenden Society patients, now boasts ultra-modern facilities, including state-of-the-art laminar flow2 theatres to minimise hospital-acquired infection, imaging technology and MRI equipment.
Hospital director, Jane Abbott, commented: “We know from patient feedback that the medical and surgical teams here at Benenden work medical magic on a daily basis, transforming patients’ lives through excellent standards of care in our modern facilities. With The Magicians onsite, our patients can enjoy seeing Benenden’s past brought back to life – and hopefully relax and enjoy some light entertainment, too!”
