RM Society (Supporters of Benenden Hospital)
|
|
The RM Society was founded in 1950 and consisted of ex patients from Benenden Hospital. In the days when most of the Hospital's patients suffered from tuberculosis, the sign of their recovery was mercury rising in a thermometer - hence the name RM (Rising Mercury).
Today, the RM Society membership is available to anyone who wishes to fundraise for the Hospital. There are currently around 2000 members, many of who attend a popular annual reunion lunch each October and an AGM each April. Newsletters are issued each year which include news of the latest developments at Benenden Hospital as well as progress of their registered office in York, The Benenden Healthcare Society Ltd.
The Annual Subscription is £3.00 per person. Subscriptions are renewable annually on dates announced in the newsletters. The Society also has charity status and gift aid.
Many of our supporters also give donations of appreciation for the benefit of the Hospital. The RM Society has in recent years purchased items of equipment to an average value of £10,000 per year.
